    Graciously Waiting

    Be reminded that your active waiting is an act of worship. The whole purpose of worship is to turn our eyes to the hills from where our help comes. Worship allows us to sing and meditate through all the Psalms that David penned while in extreme periods of distress.

    It is Good

    Thus to write poetry is to partake in the process of giving form to something formless…By creating, we act in hope as we push back the darkness of isolation and disconnection. Moreover, by creating we worship: we act out our imago dei, imitating the creator and making good out of his Good.

    Jesus Was No Stoic

    Lament remained a largely personal practice for several years. But, I slowly began to notice the importance of communal lament. Some losses are personal. Other losses are communal and need to be lamented as such. This became even clearer when the pandemic hit in 2020. Many religious leaders lacked the basic vocabulary needed to speak to the fear and pain being experienced by the body of believers.
