In Memoriam: David Winecoff

Reformed Worship editorial council member David Winecoff died in a tragic accident while rock climbing in Colorado on August 18. David was 39, and he and his wife Jane have four children, ages 12, 8, 3, and 1. David was pastor of the Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church (PCA) in St. Louis, Missouri, and taught part-time at Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

David Winecoff was very knowledgeable and passionate about worship in the Reformed and Presbyterian tradition. He made a valuable contribution to our twice-yearly brainstorming meetings in which council and staff discuss worship issues we should be addressing in Reformed Worship. We will all miss him.

YOUR KINGDOM COME

REFORMED WORSHIP ANNOUNCES A NEW HYMN SEARCH

As Christians, we acknowledge that we are all called to full-time kingdom service. We believe that call is cosmic in scope, and is related to a vision of the kingdom that has come and is still coming. But what exactly are we asking when we pray "Your kingdom come"? What that request means for Christians who are living out their lives in the last decade of the twentieth century is the focus of this hymn competition.

Entry Rules

Texts: The hymn texts should use contemporary and inclusive language with imagery that is current in North American culture. Texts may be submitted without music or set to a new tune. A select number of texts will be sent to composers who so request.

Music: The tune should be conceived for congregational singing and set for organ or piano.

Submit: Please submit four photocopies of each entry.

Prizes

$200 (US) for first-place text
$200 (US) for first-place music

Honorable mentions will also be announced.

Deadlines

Text: January 1,1994

Musk: July 1,1994. Upon composers request, a selection of the best texts will be sent by March 1,1994.

The winning combination of text and music will be published in Re-formed Worship 36 (March, 1995).
