MORE ON THE "I AM" SERIES
As an additional idea for the I AM series in RW 42, consider creating artwork like this unusual quilt design by Janet Holleman, Cambridge Station, Nova Scotia. She writes:
I quilted this wail hanging [see photo] for the front of our church. Many of the design ideas came from Biblical Blocks by Rosemary Makhan, a former Nova Scotian (published by The Patchwork Place, Inc., P.O. Box 118, Bothwell, WA 98041; 206- 483-3313; fax 206-486-7596). However, some I designed myself as better suited to our worship.
The wall hanging (70"x70") is done in hunter greens, burgandy reds, and beiges. The center medallion of the wall hanging is named "Treeof Life." Jesussaid, "lam the Way, the Truth, and the Life." The Tree of Life is planted in the middle of the new Jerusalem. "And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations" (Rev. 22:2b). The quilt world has many blocks with a biblical theme, and some have been incorporated into this wall hanging; others are my original design. Beginning from the left-hand corner: children of Israel (Ex. 14:15-16); cross within a cross (Luke 23:26); crown of thorns (Mark 15:17-18); road to Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1, 7-8); star of the morning (Rev. 22:16); Solomon's puzzle (1 Kings 4: 29-30); sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6: 17); dove of peace (Matt. 3: 16); Hosanna! (Mark 11: 9-10); the new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:16); Joseph's coat (Gen. 37:3); Rose of Sharon (Song of Songs 2:1-2); Jacob's ladder (Gen. 28:12); bread and wine (Matt. 26:26-28); Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:8); Job's tears (Job 16:20-21).
