A Psalm Prayer and Blessing for Our Children

A Psalm Prayer and Blessing for Children

Note: Words in bold type indicate congregational response.

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory in the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants

you have established a stronghold

against your enemies,

to silence the foe and the avenger.
(Ps. 8:1b-2)

Though my father and mother forsake me,

the Lord will receive me.

Teach me your way, Lord;

lead me in a straight path because

of my oppressors. (Ps. 17:10-11)

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?

By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.
(Ps. 119:9-11)

Children are a heritage from the Lord,

offspring a reward from him.

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior

are children born in one’s youth.

Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. (Ps. 127:3-5)

Lord, we thank you for our children.

Please put your word in their hearts,

as they go to Sunday School,

or listen to the sermon.

May we all grow spiritually today

as we worship you in spirit and in truth,

and hear your Word proclaimed. Amen!
