INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES
GRANT RECIPIENTS
The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship is pleased to announce the recipients of Worship Renewal Grants for the year 2000. In its first year at the Institute, the program generated interest in nearly every part of North America and from many denominations. Over $100,000 will be awarded to twelve programs. Funds for the program were provided through a grant from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment, Inc. Founded in 1937, the endowment's major areas of concern are community development, education, and religion. Grant recipients will sponsor a broad range of projects related to worship education, arts, youth concerns, and cultural diversity.
The Institute received more than 250 proposals from over 20 denominations and 30 states and provinces. "The tremendous response to this program is a sign of great hope. There is obviously a great interest in worship renewal that is both well-grounded and creative," said Cindy Holtrop, manager of the grants program for the Worship Institute.
The Institute worked with a seven-member national advisory board to evaluate proposals. "The selection process was extremely difficult. We were especially grateful for so many proposals that gave evidence of deep theological reflection on the meaning of worship," said John Witvliet, Institute director.

The following grants were awarded:
Ada and Kelloggsville Christian Schools, Ada and Kelloggsville, Michigan
To create a program for teaching students and teachers the elements of worship, and modeling those elements in informal and formal worship services.
All Nations Christian Reformed Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
To develop and publish a worship resource manual for intergenerational worship services that more fully integrate youth into the worship life of congregations.
Christians in Theatre Arts, Greenville, South Carolina
To research theological, liturgical, and philosophical rationale for thoughtful integration of the dramatic arts in worship in North American congregations, and to present this at a series of national conferences on both drama and worship.
Conference on Korean Worship and Music, Louisville, Kentucky
To sponsor a national conference on Korean worship and music in order to create worship resources for Korean American congregations.
Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions Region VI, Toledo, Ohio
To sponsor a Liturgy Summer Camp for adults and young adults to provide basic liturgical understanding to lay leaders in congregations in Michigan and Ohio.
First Congregational Church, UCC, Loekport, Illinois
To develop a collaborative youth worship leadership training program for junior high, high school, and college students in four congregations.
Glade Baptist Church, Blacksburg, Virginia
To develop a fine arts gallery in their sanctuary, in conjunction with contemplative worship services.
Ministry of Worship and Spiritual Life, Archdiocese of Miami, Miami, Florida
To sponsor a week-long Liturgical Institute for clergy, religious and lay leaders of South Florida with a focus on the sacraments and popular devotions in developing multi-cultural congregations.
North American Association for the Cate-chumenate (NAAC), Seattle, Washington
To sponsor a conference on programs to integrate worship, evangelism, hospitality, and small group ministries in the process of welcoming new members to a congregation.
Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas
To bring together clergy and lay leaders from five congregations concerned with modeling theologically informed worship in multi-cultural ministry settings.
Rutgers Community Christian Church, Belle Mead, New Jersey
To sponsor a seminar on music and worship to explore future directions for this and other Chinese-American congregations.
Timothy Christian High School, Elmhurst, Illinois
To sponsor a worship conference and educational experience for high school students in Christian high schools in the Midwest.
