Book: Book of Worship

New York: United Church of Christ, 1986,563 pages, $28.00

The UCC Book of Worship may be of interest to Christians of other denominations as well. It provides full liturgies for Word and sacrament services, seasonal services (including Ash Wednesday but not Pentecost), and occasional services, including "Healing" and "Recognition of the End of a Marriage." (The latter has been caricatured, but is really an honest service of confession.) The language of the services is self-consciously and consistently inclusive.

Book of Worship is available in either loose-leaf binder or pocket format. Although the layout and construction of the book are excellent, its attraction will be curtailed by the price.

Rev. Harry Boonstra (1935-2017) was a theological editor of RW and emeritus theological librarian of Calvin University and Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan. (2024-08)
